Naturally, since you’ve undergone an artificial treatment – even if it doesn’t involve any sort of surgical procedure at all – there are no guarantees that your now white teeth would remain white for the rest of your life. And that’s why it’s important to do everything you can to retain the effect of the teeth whitening treatment you had undergone.

First, always remember to brush your teeth. You’re not excused this time so no more slacking! You can’t just brush your teeth only in the mornings. Now, you have to brush your teeth at least every after meal and of course before you sleep and after you wake up. This is not just to retain the whitening effects of the treatments – it’s also to retain your friends because who in his right mind could tolerate having a friend with bad breath?

Floss! It’s a hygienic habit that sadly, only a few people had come to pick. Flossing your teeth is as equally important as brushing your teeth because it removes the dirt that a toothbrush is unable to reach. And before you ask what clean teeth have to do with your white teeth, believe me, it’s very much related so complain no more and just do what I say!

Avoid nicotine, softdrinks and other food or drink that could cause teeth discoloration. If you’re a chain smoker, think of it this way. Quitting smoking would be like killing two birds with one stone – not only would you be able to make your white teeth last longer, you’ll also be able to make your life last just a little bit longer! And when it comes to softdrinks, well, haven’t you heard of diabetes?! There’s no cure to that so avoid softdrinks and just be satisfied with your bright smile!

Continue using products such as whitening floss, mouth rinse, whitening strips and whitening toothpastes to make the whiteness of your teeth last longer. Definitely, it’s a cheaper method rather than letting it deteriorate once more until you have to undergo another teeth whitening treatment once more. When it comes to whitening toothpastes, you need not use it everyday. The same goes with mouth rinse and whitening floss. With whitening strips, you’re advise to use it every after meal and let it stick for half an hour or so.

Schedule regular check ups with your dentist. This is not your mother in law we’re talking about so there’s no reason why you have to avoid him! And don’t make it an annual or semi-annual visit because that’s not what I mean!

Why whiten your teeth. How white is white?

Teeth whitening is big business these days. Why don’t teeth stay white, and how important is it anyway?

Teeth aren’t naturally pure white to begin with. Most teeth are a light shade of ivory or yellow. Teeth darken with age, mostly because of accumulated stains that even a professional cleaning wont entirely get rid of. Coffee, red wine, black tea, tobacco, and a variety of medications can darken teeth fairly quickly. Just plain normal living and eating in a Western country will eventually cause stains to build up on teeth. Even after a teeth whitening procedure, teeth will need to be redone within six months to a year and a half to maintain a bright, white smile.

One of the first things we notice when meeting a person is their face. And then whether or not they are smiling. The smile is the first thing, but the quality of the smile and whether strong healthy white teeth or stained and dark teeth are revealed also convey a message. Beautiful teeth convey several messages to us. Health and vitality. Care in personal habits is another. And, rightly or not, confidence and sexiness are also associated with white teeth.

In our culture, white teeth have become a social standard. People on TV and in movies flash radiant smiles. News casters and especially actors in commercials have beautiful white teeth. There are several touchups that are mandatory for professional photographs of models. Having whiter teeth is one of them. It’s that important for commercial photos. How can the average person not want to have whiter teeth?

We ve commented on personalities who have gone overboard on teeth whitening and have unnaturally and unbelievably white teeth. Over bleaching will result in teeth that can look artificially white. The goal in teeth whitening should be to improve your smile, so you have a positive impact on people. It shouldn’t be that your teeth are what people notice first and think about. It has been said that teeth shouldn’t be whiter that the whites of your eyes. You can judge for yourself.

Fortunately, if you want to have whiter teeth, it is easy these days. There is a wide range of products available at a wide range of prices. Laser whitening is expensive and quick. Bleaching trays are middle of the road in price and take a week or two for results. Teeth whitening strips and paint on gel are the most affordable methods. They also take 7 to 14 days and are available to virtually everyone.

Teeth whitening is important these days. And it’s one trend that I intend to go along with.

Who wouldn’t want to look and feel young and healthy for just a few years longer? From moisturizing creams to nail polish the list of beauty products is long. Tooth whitening is just a small piece of the puzzle. At-home whitening products make a whiter smile possible for many of us. People who otherwise cannot afford expensive dentist visits can whiten their teeth for a little more than a haircut.

But there is a big difference between tooth bleaching kits and other cosmetic products. Teeth don’t heal. No matter how many times we hear - “Teeth whitening is safe” - we remain cautious. That is why health conscious men and women spend more time learning about different teeth whitening options. The reward is a brighter smile; the tools are powerful bleaching chemicals. However more whitening power usually means higher risks. Life is a balancing act and tooth bleaching is no different.

The goal is to find a happy compromise; a product that provides sufficient whitening power and ensures safety at the same time. Balancing whitening power with safety is not an easy task. There are many things to consider. Oral health is the first and probably the most important factor. Individuals with less than perfect dental health should take less risk. It can mean less powerful whitening gels or a visit to the dentist. Teeth whitening strips are less effective but are considered safer than tray based whitening methods.

However there is good news to those who want maximum safety. When it comes to tooth whitening time can substitute power. In other words the same whitening results can be achieved with less powerful gels and longer application times.

The following is a list of at-home teeth whitening methods starting with the safest option:

  • Whitening toothpaste
  • Tooth whitening strips
  • Custom fit whitening trays with low concentration gel
  • Thermoform whitening trays with low concentration gel
  • Custom fit trays with high concentration gel
  • Thermoform trays with high concentration gel

There is no single best way to teeth whitening. A short self evaluation may help with the selection.

You’ve seen the ads. By using either strips soaked in a special solution or by brushing your teeth with a special formula, you can whiten your teeth. Many consumers are opting for these less expensive forms of teeth whitening. Others may choose to have their teeth bleached by a dentist, while still some go for a full veneer set of teeth whitening in true "extreme makeover" fashion. But how do these teeth whitening products work? And do over the counter teeth whitening products really remove more than coffee and tea stains to the enamel? This article will take a look what substances can cause discoloration of the teeth as well as the various methods used to whiten the teeth.

Discoloration of the Teeth: Causes

I’ve already mentioned some of the substances that contribute to staining or dulling of enamel, such as coffee and tea. There are more contributors to this problem. Some other factors that cause staining to the teeth include, tobacco use, caffeinated sodas, injury to the tooth, discoloration related to the antibiotic Tetracycline and aging.

Teeth Whitening Toothpastes

Teeth whitening toothpastes are recommended for minimal stains such as coffee and tea. They are however very beneficial for people who have already undergone a professional teeth whitening or bleaching session and would like to keep their results. These toothpastes consist of a mixture of a mild solution of hydrogen peroxide and baking soda.

Teeth Whitening and Home Bleaching Kits

You can purchase home bleaching kits at any drugstore. These consist of a mouth tray and gel solution. You soak your teeth in the solution for at least 10 minutes. Though these have had successful reports, they aren’t fully recommended by the American Dental Association. If you decide to use a home bleaching kit, be sure to follow the instructions carefully, and not to use more than is recommended. Another form of these mouth tray/gel teeth whitening systems is the prescription kind. Yes, your dentist can prescribe an at home teeth whitening system. This is more advantageous than the over the counter brand, because the dentist can follow up with you and make sure that none of your previous dental work is being effected by the kit.

Teeth Whitening and Power Bleaching

The power associated with Power Bleaching refers to the level of hydrogen peroxide. Hydrogen Peroxide is the active ingredient that causes teeth whitening systems to work. For example, an over the counter teeth whitening toothpaste contains less than one percent Hydrogen Peroxide, while a few newer products do contain up to ten percent Hydrogen Peroxide. Some of the over the counter teeth whitening kits contain between 10 and 16 percent Hydrogen Peroxide, and a Power Bleaching solution contains up to 35 percent Hydrogen Peroxide. This procedure takes place in the dentist’s office and consists of the high concentrated Peroxide solution and the use of bright lights. The results are impressive and last for a few years. If you are interested in Power Bleaching, contact your dentist for recommendations.

Veneers

Veneers are a very popular method of permanent teeth whitening. Veneers are actually made out of porcelain and are attached to the tooth. It can be an expensive process though, costing as much as $900 per tooth.

Whichever method of teeth whitening you prefer, you should always consult with your dentist before choosing any products and use all products according to their instructions.

Why Do You Need Teeth Whitening?

Hello. That’s like asking Anna Nicole Smith why she had to lose weight. The answer’s obvious, isn’t it? It’s always better to have white teeth than yellow ones. And do thank the Almighty that you were born in this era and given the option to undergo teeth whitening treatment. I’m sure the rich people born generations before would pay thousands of dollars just to afford the same treatment but sadly for them, the world of medical science wasn’t able to come up with such a breakthrough just yet.

What Are The Types Of Teeth Whitening?

Glad you asked because that means you’ve accepted the need for teeth whitening. But on to your question: right now, there are just two options open to you. You could either go for an over the counter slash do it yourself slash at home teeth whitening treatment or go for the more expensive one and avail yourself of a professional teeth whitening treatment. Whichever you choose later on, it’s okay, the important thing is that you have chosen to undergo treatment.

But so as to help you choose, here are brief descriptions of each type of teeth whitening treatment.

Professional Teeth Whitening Treatment

People who are problem-free when it comes to money usually opt for a professional teeth whitening treatment because they just don’t want to deal with the hassle of doing the treatment themselves when they don’t need to. Naturally, there are distinct advantages when you go for a professional teeth whitening treatment. First, you can be sure that nothing could go wrong with the teeth whitening treatment because you’re literally in the capable hands of your dentist. The promised effect of a professional teeth whitening treatment is also more satisfactory compared to that of a do it yourself teeth whitening treatment and may be seen in a shorter period of time.

Do It Yourself Teeth Whitening Treatments

In contrast, it’s usually the presently cash strapped who prefer to purchase do it yourself teeth whitening kits, them and those with morbid fears of going to their dentist’s clinic. Obviously, there are risks when a person other than a dentist is in put in charge of a teeth whitening treatment even if it’s just as simple as using a whitening toothpaste. If you truly have to use an at-home teeth whitening kit, do try to schedule a consultation with your dentist. You won’t be paying for her professional services but rather just for a little advice. Ask your dentist if using the particular teeth whitening product is okay with your teeth and if possible, have your dentist take care of the mold for your teeth too.

IF YOU WANT TO DO IT YOURSELF

Then you should browse the Internet or go to the nearest drugstore and ask for the most in-demand over the counter teeth whitening kit they have available. There’s certainly nothing wrong if you want to do the teeth whitening treatment all by yourself because it’s your teeth anyway and so you have the right to do whatever you want to do. Opting for a do it yourself teeth whitening treatment is also definitely cheaper than going for a professional teeth whitening treatment so if you’re still busy saving for the rainy days to come then yes, the practical choice would be going for an at home teeth whitening kit.

Now, before you purchase any do it yourself teeth whitening kit, make sure that you search and browse for consumer reviews first so you’d have an idea about which teeth whitening product is reportedly the most effective in provides results in the shortest time possible. Secondly, look for an over the counter teeth whitening kit that comes with a thirty day money back guarantee. I assure you, there are teeth whitening products that are out in the market and provide users with such assurance so better purchase one with a warranty like that. Thirdly, if the teeth whitening product you’re using is a toothpaste, make sure that it has the ADA seal of approval to indicate that it’s declared to safe to use for consumers.

Now, there are two types of at-home teeth whitening kits available in the market and they are teeth whitening kits that contain bleaching solutions and teeth whitening kits which contain whitening toothpastes. If your problems are mainly surface stains or you’re not that good with measuring solutions and the likes then you should stick with a teeth whitening treatment that only uses whitening toothpaste. But if your teeth discoloration problems go much deeper and you have no problems with measuring liquids and fitting the mold of your teeth then certainly it’s better to use a bleaching solution because it takes a more direct approach to teeth whitening.

ON THE OTHER HAND

If you seem to have problems about doing the whole teeth whitening treatment yourself, nervous about side effects and you have cash to spare for additional expenses then certainly, it’s more preferable if you let the experts take over and have the dentist take control of the whole teeth whitening procedure. With a dentist to help you out, you’re sure to have whiter teeth in no time at all!

There are presently two types of teeth whitening treatments that are open to you.

Actually, the difference lies more on the procedure rather than the treatment yourself. And I’ll let you find out for yourself as you read the following paragraphs.

Over The Counter Teeth Whitening Treatments
If you’re saving up for a lot of expenses that usually comes at the end of the month – read: utility bills, credit card payments, mortgage payments and the likes – then maybe, you just have to do with over the counter teeth whitening treatments. But don’t be so glum because it’s not that bad.

The main difference between over the counter teeth whitening treatments and the other is just that in this case, you’ll be the one wearing the white coat. But hey, if you’ve got faith in your abilities, there’s nothing wrong with that, right? And at least you’ll be able to save on money and time. Professional teeth whitening treatment could take forever. You know how some dentists are, ever the perfectionists, wanting to whiten everything, even the deepest recesses of your teeth, something that not even your husband or wife would be able to notice.

There are two primary types of over the counter teeth whitening treatments and these are bleaching solutions and whitening toothpastes. And because this type of teeth whitening treatment is also known as do it yourself and at home teeth whitening treatment, understand that it’s all up to you how the procedure goes. If in doubt of your capabilities, you could always ask for your friend’s help. Anyway, it’s just the measurements that matter most so just remember that using too little of the whitening product is infinitely better than using too much which could lead to unwanted complications.

Professional Teeth Whitening Treatments
But let’s just say that you’re blessed in terms of finances and your only problem in life is your very yellow teeth. Right on. There’s only one thing to do then – and that’s not to mess anymore with your teeth and let a professional handle the problem. Let them do what they do best and all you have to do is sit back, open your mouth, relax and wait for the mirror to show you your new shiny white teeth.

Okay, I admit it. It’s only now that I learned about the presence of teeth whitening treatments in the market. Before this very minute, I used to be one of the unfortunate millions who regretted the fact that once born with yellow teeth – or acquired – you’re forever doomed with it. So you can just imagine my joy when I found out that there’s actually such a thing called teeth whitening. And it actually works!

If you’re wondering what’s so bad about yellow teeth then look at the mirror once more and tell me straight – what’s so nice about it? Between yellow and white, why not go for the shiny kind of teeth? Why continue to suffer with yellow teeth when teeth whitening treatments can turn that into something that could rival Snowhite’s skin?

The advantages to going for a teeth whitening treatment are endless. Let’s talk about looks. Whether you like it or not, having good looks matter in this world. It can open up doors that were previously shut close to you. And having shiny white teeth is part of being good-looking. No matter that you have just about the best facial structure since Audrey Hepburn and you’re blessed with a Barbie like figure, with yellow teeth, you’re still not considered beautiful.

Besides looks, there are also career advantages you could enjoy when you go for a teeth whitening treatment. Employers are always on the lookout for decent looking employees who could be presented as models to look up to. White teeth is often taken as a sign of responsibility because taking good care of one’s teeth is quite a hard – and often underestimated and undervalued – task and it’s also seen as an indication of someone free from vices, nicotine in particular.

If you’re inclined to say yes now to teeth whitening treatments, here are the options available to you.

Professional Teeth Whitening Treatments – When I say professional, this means letting the dentist take over the teeth whitening treatment from point A to Z. This may also mean regular visits to the clinic until you achieve the proper whitening tone for your teeth. The effects of professional teeth whitening treatments are better than do it yourself treatments but they’re also more expensive.

Do It Yourself Teeth Whitening Treatments – as you can already draw from the name itself, it’s something that you can accomplish all by yourself. The effects may vary, depending on your ability to follow the instructions to the letter and on the amount of whitening solution used in the treatment. Less expensive than a professional treatment.

A great smile can prove to be a valuable asset, particularly when you first meet someone. However, people who have brown or yellow stained teeth are very conscious of this shortcoming. It may also cause social insecurity. One of the best treatment methods available to gain back that white perfect smile is teeth whitening. The basic methodology of teeth whitening is that it reverses the process of discoloration of teeth, bleaching them to reveal the white enamel again.

Teeth generally darken over a period of time. This may be due to consumption of caffeine-containing drinks (like tea, coffee and cola) or tobacco products. Also, excessive fluoride production and use of antibiotic medication can also lead to teeth discoloration. However, the biggest factor contributing to the loss of whiteness is age. Teeth whitening, to counter the process of discoloration, is one of the safest and the most popular procedure in cosmetic dentistry. Studies indicate that almost 96% of the people who undergo this treatment experience visible benefits.

There are three options available to those considering this procedure – you can either undergo professional bleaching, try home bleaching or use whitening toothpastes. Of the three listed, the quickest and the most effective is professional bleaching. It is also referred to as In-Office or Chair-side bleaching. It usually requires two or more visits to a dentist. However, the effects are much long lasting than any other procedure. The dentist will apply a bleaching agent to your teeth. The gums, however, are not harmed. The most common mouth guard is a gel or rubber shield. After the dentist has carefully applied the bleaching agent to your teeth, he might want to use additional heat or light procedures to make the agent work faster. A usual treatment sitting might last from 30 minutes to an hour.

The second option that is available to you is that of home bleaching. You can buy a kit from any certified pharmacist or dentist. This kit would usually contain a hydrogen peroxide based bleaching gel or solution. This is meant to be applied to the tooth enamel. As a rule, a mouth guard is also included in the kit. You are supposed to place the solution or gel in the mouth guard and then follow the directions given with the equipment. The frequency of use and the duration of treatment for home bleaching vary. Overnight treatments work for a much shorter period. However, if you are, say, required to use the kit twice a day, the treatment might be effective for a longer period of time.

Whitening toothpastes work in a different way from bleaching techniques because they do not aim towards a permanent alteration of teeth color. They usually contain polishing agents. They work to remove some of the deeper stains, which a regular toothpaste might not effectively dislodge. You should always consult your dentist before going forth with any of these procedures – he is the best person to guide you and can advise you on the most effective treatment plan suited to your needs.
